Getting Over Gym Anxiety

Everyone goes to the gym for a reason. Whether it's to lose weight, gain weight, get stronger, recovery from an injury, etc. We all start somewhere. It's nerve-wracking to go to be honest. My first time at the gym I felt judged, like everyone was watching my every move like a hawk. I was there for maybe 20 minutes and then I left and cried in my car. It's not easy, but everyone has all been there. In this post, I am going to give you 5 tips on how to start at the gym and get over the anxiety. The end of this post, I'll share what got me to the gym!

Let's Get To Work!
Let's Get To Work!

  1. No One Cares

This is as true as it gets. You may feel like someone is watching you and judging or laughing at you, but that is not the case. Everyone is already concerned if someone is watching them try out a new workout, or if their workout set looks cute or not, or are they actually doing RDLs right? People are selfish, they only care about themselves and in the gym it is a blessing for people to mind their own business.

  1. Go In With A Plan

I cannot stress to you enough how important this is. The absolute last thing you want to do is walk around aimlessly with no idea how machines work or how basic etiquette works. Have a workout split, maybe hit legs on your first day or arms so you are not lost. Understand how sets work and how long your rest is between sets, understand what muscles you are working to ensure you have the right form. You have to have a plan of action because you may hit an all body workout that benefits you in no way.

  1. Confidence is Key

With the first two tips, having confidence creates the Big Three. Go into the gym like you have been working out since you were a toddler. This is not your first day. Carrying yourself with confidence actually gives you a boost, it will make you feel stronger, more energetic. It is like a placebo effect, if you believe it, it can become true.

  1. Set a Goal

You are going to the gym for a reason, set a goal, small victory maybe to help you keep going back. Goals are something realistic, not like getting abs in 2 weeks, it is more like you want to get your first pushup in "X" amount of time. This keeps you motivated to go back to the gym.

  1. Consistency

Keep going back. You started the job, now finish it. Consistency is the hardest part, but once you see progress it becomes the most rewarding feeling on the planet. You won't see results the first day, maybe not the first month, but if you keep going back you will see progress and it will be worth it.

I hope you took something away from this post! I'm sorry it is a bit shorter, but I have been crammed with homework and school in general (Women in STEM!), but these rules really helped on my journey and I hope it helps you too! My favorite was my energy drink from ZOA (https://amzn.to/42egdrm) and a probiotic from Bloom to keep my gut healthy (https://amzn.to/3KIpVfy) Love yourself and better yourself daily 🤍
